Hey all! This is something new I'm starting where I discuss some things that stood out to me the past month -- a monthly newsletter if you will.
Each month I'll discuss some things for you to LOOK at in terms of fashion, film, and television, new music for you to LISTEN to, and some topics for you to LEARN about.
Here's a few things that stood out to me last month in June as we enter July!...
LOOK
SMILING FRIENDS ON [ADULT SWIM]
One thing about me, is that I have a pretty dark sense of humor. I know a lot of people like to say that in order to appear quirky or stand out from the crowd, but I truly do. Case and point, the show Smiling Friends on Adult Swim.
I have been watching Adult Swim shows since the days my TV had a parental lock on it (sorry mom!) So I would definitely attribute my sense of humor to all of the Adult Swim shows, past and present. Smiling Friends is no different, this show completely encapsulates my sense of humor, and the best part is that the episodes are only twelve minutes long. I think the funniest part of show is that the dialogue is so realistic in terms of every day conversation and reactions.

THE BEAR
I'll be honest, The Bear stresses me the hell OUT! I'm a little behind on my episodes so no need for a spoiler alert, however I can never find the time to catch up because this is not one of those shows you put on to "relax"... I made that mistake last week LOL.
The first episode of the season was very different from what we typically see. I liked the artistic approach, however it felt like it dragged on a bit. Maybe it was to prepare us for the chaos that was to come? (i.e. changing the menus DAILY!?) I am really excited to tune into the episode that Ayo Edibiri directed, because I am always rooting for my bestie (in my head at least lol).
What are your thoughts on the season so far?
A$AP ROCKY FASHION WEEK DEBUT
ASAP Rocky Finally debuted his fashion line during Paris fashion week! As we all know, ASAP has been a fashion killa (see what I did there? lol) for the last 15 years, so it's no shocker that he eventually ventured into the fashion world.
I will say some of these looks are giving very much "derelicte" (see link LOL) but some of them I can rock with. Take a look at the looks that I found.... intriguing for better or worse lol.
HOT SUMMER TREND ALERT?
Another day, another recycled trend... and when I say recycled I mean that non-poc are claiming something that POC have been doing for years and attributing it to some influencer like Hailey Bieber...
The only benefit to this constant cycle, is the ability to rock the styles better than most, because we are the originators. Anywho, take a look at this "new" scarf + hat trend... will you be rocking it this summer?

BRAT - CHARLI XCX
It's a "Brat" summer babes, keep up!
Charli XCX's latest and greatest album "Brat" is more than just an album, it's an entire physical embodiment, it's an aura, an aesthetic. And if you don't get it, you never will! Also - if you dig the album you MUST check out the remixes and deluxe album that came to follow!
KENDRICK LAMAR: THE POP OUT - KEN & FRIENDS
Let me just say, it is SO funny that Amazon had this concert because Drake's ass was fully being clowned and Amazon said yup we know - proceed! Since this concert, the official video for "Not Like US" has come out and like most Kendrick Lamar videos, it's a visual masterpiece.
Take a look at Kendrick performing arguably one of the most popular diss tracks in history during his Amazon Music concert "The Pop Out: Ken & Friends".
EMERGENCY INTERCOM
Okay I am NOT a podcast girly, but I've been watching clips of one in particular for the last few years on Tiktok called "Emergency Intercom". I literally don't even know how to describe it, but if you like Adult Swim humor you will absolutely love this show.
For example, they just celebrated 3 years of the podcast, and they commemorated this by having a very "unique" intro to their show... check it out for yourselves below!

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND...
LET'S GOOOO! I have been WAITING on Justin Timberlake's downfall, even prior to everything being unveiled about how he treated the legendary Miss Britney Spears.
Even as a child I thought it was pretty suspect that he didn't get any flack for the whole Janet Jackson Super Bowl stunt. Then when I got a little older and saw that he was no longer making R&B music... the very same music that made him famous, I was over him.
I'll admit, as a young *NSYNC fan he was my childhood crush, however once I saw his dating history did not include many black women, and also saw the woman he decided to marry... I figured it would be best to leave this very confused man exactly where he stands.
Anyway - let's laugh and boo him!
LET'S BRING BACK SHAME!
These freakin' balloon pop... 20 v. 1... etc videos are NEFARIOUS!!! I have seen ENOUGH! Where is people's shame??? I am embarrassed for them because is it ever that serious to be picked??? These GROWN behind people are getting up on the balloon pop videos, projecting their misery assuming they are some sort of catch, which I find ironic. They are ALL going to be miserable and single forever. As for the 20 v. 1 videos, please just watch this one for yourself... I couldn't finish it, and you will see why. BRING. BACK. SHAME!
