Hey all! This is something new I'm starting where I discuss some things that stood out to me the past month -- a monthly newsletter if you will.
Each month I'll discuss some things for you to LOOK at in terms of fashion, film, and television, new music for you to LISTEN to, and some topics for you to LEARN about.
Here's a few things that stood out to me in May as we enter a new month...
LOOK
MET GALA 2024
Every year I look forward to the Met Gala, because I absolutely LOVE fashion. However, this year really seemed to be unmemorable. A full month later and I can barely remember most of the looks. I think being that more influencers have been invited in recent years, it's really watered down the exclusivity and glamour of the Met Gala. In the 90's and early 2000's the most elite celebrities attended and it was less of a spectacle. I mean, even some of the AI photos I saw were better than the actual looks on the red carpet. Also, as someone who loves a good themed party, nothing pisses me off than seeing someone so far off theme. If you're not going to be on theme then don't show up!
Anywho, I did manage to find a few looks that I enjoyed, so see below!
"SADE AESTHETIC"
TikTok aesthetics are typically pretty ridiculous to me as it is (deer pretty, bunny, pretty, etc) but I think it's most egregious when they turn trends created or embodied by POC. We've seen the hot cheeto girls turn into the clean girls, we've seen the gold girls turn into the silver girls; all because the aforementioned "trends" are now deemed tacky according to someone who never had any personal style or culture to begin with!
Recently Sade's songs have been trending, and the girls went ahead and turned her into an aesthetic.... ugh. First off, I'd be willing to bet that most of these people don't realize that Sade is the name of the band AND the lead singer, Sade Adu. Second, Sade never set out to be someone who was meant to be sought after based on aesthetic purposes. And THIRD, the aesthetic that people are trying to attach to Sade doesn't even match Sade's personal style! It's the most basic outfits, which Sade's style is very far from.
Let's take a moment below to enjoy some of her actual aesthetic that should be celebrated.
INSIDE OUT 2
Can you believe it's been TWELVE years since the first Inside Out movie came out?! Wow, I feel so old. Despite being around 17 when the first film came out, I still bawled my eyes out like a baby (but honestly I do that in most movies anyway LOL).
`Inside Out 2 will feature a few new emotions including Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment. Obviously Riley will be a bit older in this film, and boy do I remember the onset of all those emotions when I was a teenager. Inside Out 2 comes out on June 14th and I'm so excited to check it out, and probably cry once again!
LISTEN
TIMELESS - KATRANADA
STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM! If Kaytranada has no fans then I'm DEAD! I have been a fan of his since 2014 (and yes! I am bragging about that!)
TIMELESS is Kaytranada's third studio album, and to nobody's surprise it's another banger.

HIT ME HARD AND SOFT - BILLIE EILISH
It took a little while for me to join the Billie Eilish train. Obviously she is BEYOND talented, but I truly just felt like I was too old to listen to her and as if I was trying to fit in with Gen Z, LOL! This new album however shows a more mature side of Billie, with more mature themes to match. Take a listen!
LEARN
CASSIE & WHY WE SHOULD BELIEVE VICTIMS
I'm not going to elaborate too much on this topic because there's already been more than enough discourse on it, and I assume that anyone with a brain is on Cassie Ventura's side. However you'd be surprised how many numbskulls are still trying to deny her experience or felt they needed some sort of proof. Social media has created a cesspool of judgemental trolls and losers that feel they need people they have NEVER met to prove something to them. I always believed Cassie's story, because it's unfortunately a story we've heard time and time again.
I'm glad Cassie has found happiness, but we need to believe victims when they first speak on issues, period.
J.LO & KARMA
I have been waiting for this day my entire life LOL... Listen, I don't wish ill will on people, but I definitely think people will get whats coming to them. J.Lo is one of those people. I'm not going to speak on my father's personal experiences with her, but as someone who had the pleasure (more like displeasure) of growing up with Jennifer Lopez in my personal life, her karma was overdue.
Honestly I find her lack of cognitive dissonance to be fascinating, and the behind the scenes for that god awful film put this on display even further. I pray she finds peace within her self and sees how the consequences of her actions have left her to have a miserable lonely life.
