Hey all! This is something new I'm starting where I discuss some things that stood out to me the past month -- a monthly newsletter if you will.
Each month I'll discuss some things for you to LOOK at in terms of fashion, film, and television, new music for you to LISTEN to, and some topics for you to LEARN about.
The month of April brought us a lot of trends, truths, testimonies, and tears. Here's a few things that stood out to me as we enter a new month...
LOOK
YOUTHFORIA FOUNDATION
As someone who rarely wears makeup, I hardly ever am tapped into the latest beauty news. So once I'm aware of something going on, I know it's a big deal. This Youthforia drama is so deplorable. For a shade THIS dark to be the companies response to a call for inclusiveness, is SO disturbing. You would think with the success of Fenty Beauty, companies would follow suit but alas... DO BETTER!
CHINESE SLIPPERS
I'm not exactly sure if this terminology is PC anymore? But I digress, we often see non POC women claim trends that have been in certain communities for DECADES as their own. Or, in some cases they will attribute it to a particular celebrity. It's pretty irritating each time, but THIS one takes the cake... because why are they trying to act like they discovered the Chinese slippers? The same ones us black and hispanic girls were able to get from the beauty supply for $1.00!!! They have deemed them the "shoe of the summer". Right....

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
Okay! I'm sooo late to the game, but I love this show! Anytime I do my braids, I attempt I watch something that will draw my attention, and boy did it! It's fascinating how shows back then had SUCH long seasons. 10-12 hours of braiding and that only got me to episode 2 of season 2! I'm so excited to watch more when I do my hair next week!

LISTEN
DRAKE VS. KENDRICK
OKAY, anytime I try to post this, there's MORE tracks being dropped!!! So as you probably know, Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been throwing shots back and forth for years, but last month Kendrick finally ripped the bandaid off and went straight for Drake's throat... or so we thought. Drake then released two diss tracks after Kendrick's initial diss on "Like That" (one of which got removed by 2Pac's estate LOL),
Then Kendrick put the nail in the coffin when he dropped Euphoria followed by 6:16 in LA (get it... "Back to Back"!) But THENNNN as I was typing this, Drake dropped his response to Kendrick "Family Matters", only for Kendrick to hit him right back with "Meet The Grahams".
And THENNNN Kendrick dropped yet another song called "Not Like Us", and I'm already hearing them playing it in the club. Aside from him calling Drake a creep, the song itself is for the LA culture, but Drake wouldn'tknownunboutdat!
I think Drake better just stop TBH. Because his last track "The Heart Pt. 6", was pretty awful... and kind of weird?
PARTYNEXTDOOR 4: P4
I LOOOOVE me some PartyNextDoor, he's probably one of my favorite artists. So I've been fiending for some new music. Of course, his pal Drake is kind of overshadowing this release, however it's on repeat in this house! I do wish however that he would have used a different album cover cause this is truly a wild photo!
COACHELLA 2024
Ugh, part of me wanted to go so badly! But as I mentioned in my radio show, I really have not been feeling myself. So I think if I would've went to Coachella, in that heat... It might not have ended well for me. However the good thing is that Coachella streams all of the performances live! See a few of my favorite performances below!
LEARN
TIKTOK BAN
This is so stupid. I don't even know what to fully say... There are SO many other things going on in the world, specifically in this country and they choose to focus on banning Tiktok... OK! I truly feel like sooner or later I'm going to have to leave this country. Our government is embarrassing.

222 EXPERIENCE
So I'm not sure if you have seen the ads, the rather mysterious ads, for this 222 app. I kept seeing them, then my curiosity got the best of me so I downloaded it for myself. It's actually a pretty cool concept. Basically you fill out an extensive questionnaire about yourself and your interests, then the app's algorithm matches you with likeminded people. I actually have another experience I'm attending tonight! The app uses the element of suspense by slowly releasing more details as the days go on. Typically the day of, the information is released. Since the last event, I have changed some of my preferences because I Just didn't feel like the group I was paired with, was accurate or anywhere close to my personality, nor were there any cute options for me to date, sigh. I'm artistic and creative, but not an artist, so I'm hoping to meet some people more rooted in reality tonight.

NARA SMITH
If you're on Tiktok you know exactly who I'm talking about. If not, Nara Smith is a Tiktok influencer who is married to a popular model Lucky Blue Smith, and was even a model herself. Now, her career is focused on filming herself cooking meal she makes "from scratch". I always assumed this was just a fun little hobby for her as a mother of now three young kids, but recently I learned that she started making recipes due to her autoimmune disorder she suffers with from time to time. Nara uses these recipes with clean ingredients to avoid flare ups, and as someone who recently was told I might have an autoimmune disease and likes to eat clean, I'm even more inspired by Nara! The other day, this girl was making SNICKERS and BUBBLEGUM... "from scratch!" I hope she comes out with a cookbook one day called "From Scratch."
Well - that's it for this month, let's catch up in June! xoxo
